Researchers from UTHealth Houston, operating as team Novamab AI, achieved a top-five placement in the AIntibody Challenge, an international competition evaluating AI-designed antibodies through blinded laboratory testing. The results were published in Nature Biotechnology as a prospective benchmark study. The AI system successfully designed novel antibodies that passed independent experimental validation without prior knowledge of test conditions.

This demonstrates that AI can design functional antibodies that perform successfully in rigorous, blinded experimental conditions, suggesting potential for accelerating therapeutic antibody development. The approach could reduce the time and cost associated with traditional antibody discovery methods used in drug development.
