Delirium

1 article · Interdisciplinary · Wikipedia

Delirium is a temporary state of severe confusion and disorientation that affects the brain's ability to think clearly, often causing people to become forgetful, restless, or see things that aren't there. It commonly occurs in hospitalized patients, elderly individuals, or people with serious infections or injuries, and unlike dementia, it can develop suddenly and may be reversible with proper treatment. Scientists understand delirium as a sign that something is seriously disrupting the brain's normal chemical balance, whether from infection, medication, lack of sleep, or other medical emergencies.
