A diamond anvil cell (DAC) is a laboratory device that uses the extreme hardness of diamonds to compress materials to pressures millions of times greater than Earth's atmosphere. Two carefully cut diamond tips, mounted opposite each other, squeeze a tiny sample of material placed between them with incredible force.
