Fast radio burst

1 article · Physics · Wikipedia

A fast radio burst, or FRB, is a sudden and intense flash of radio waves that originates from deep space and lasts only a fraction of a second before disappearing. These mysterious cosmic events were first discovered in 2007, and astronomers are still working to figure out what causes them, though leading theories suggest they might come from neutron stars, black holes, or other exotic objects. Because FRBs are so brief and unpredictable, scientists have been racing to develop technology that can catch and study them, hoping that these cosmic fireworks will eventually reveal new secrets about the universe.
