Galaxy

1 article · Astronomy & Space · Wikipedia

A galaxy is a massive collection of stars, gas, and dust held together by gravity, containing billions or even trillions of stars orbiting around a common center. Our own Milky Way is just one galaxy among billions of others in the universe, each with its own unique shape and size. Galaxies come in different forms—some are spiral-shaped like pinwheels, others are elliptical or irregular—and they're so far apart that light from nearby galaxies takes millions of years to reach us.
