Gigawatt

1 article · Interdisciplinary · Wikipedia

A gigawatt is a unit of power equal to one billion watts, used to measure how much energy is being used or produced at any given moment. To put it in perspective, a typical home uses about one kilowatt of power on average, so one gigawatt could power roughly one million homes at the same time. Large power plants, solar farms, and wind turbines are often rated in gigawatts because they generate enormous amounts of electricity continuously.
