IgA nephropathy

2 articles · Medicine · Wikipedia

IgA nephropathy is a kidney disease that occurs when a type of antibody called IgA builds up in the tiny blood vessels of the kidneys, causing inflammation and damage that interferes with the organ's ability to filter waste from the blood. This buildup happens because the immune system produces abnormal IgA antibodies that don't work properly, and over time it can lead to progressive kidney dysfunction and, in some cases, kidney failure. It's one of the most common types of glomerulonephritis, or kidney inflammation, worldwide, though the severity varies widely from person to person.
