Meteor

1 article · Astronomy & Space · Wikipedia

A meteor is a streak of light you see shooting across the night sky, caused by a space rock called a meteoroid burning up as it enters Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds. The friction from our air heats the rock so intensely that it glows brilliantly, creating that familiar "shooting star" effect that lasts just a few seconds. If any piece of the meteor survives its fiery journey and lands on Earth's surface, it's then called a meteorite.
