Neuroblastoma

1 article · Biology · Wikipedia

Neuroblastoma is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, most commonly in children under five years old, and typically originates in the adrenal glands sitting above the kidneys or in nerve tissue along the spine. Unlike many adult cancers, neuroblastoma can sometimes develop slowly or even shrink on its own, but in other cases it becomes aggressive and spreads to other parts of the body, which is why early detection through screening is important. Scientists study this disease intensely because understanding how these cancer cells form and behave helps researchers develop better treatments and improve survival rates for affected children.
