Planetary formation

1 article · Interdisciplinary · Wikipedia

Planetary formation is the process by which planets develop from the swirling disk of gas and dust that surrounds a young star. Over millions of years, tiny particles in this disk collide and stick together, gradually building up into larger and larger objects until they become full-sized planets. Scientists study this process by observing young star systems in space and creating computer models to understand how our own solar system formed billions of years ago.
