Transfer learning

1 article · Interdisciplinary · Wikipedia

Transfer learning is when scientists take knowledge or tools developed for one problem and apply them to solve a different, related problem, rather than starting from scratch. For example, a computer vision system trained to recognize cats can be adapted to recognize tigers by fine-tuning it with tiger images, saving enormous time and computational resources. This approach leverages the idea that skills and patterns learned in one context often apply to others, making scientific research faster and more efficient.
