Ultra-processed food
Ultra-processed foods are products that have been manufactured through multiple industrial processes involving ingredients like refined oils, added sugars, sodium, and chemical additives such as preservatives, colorants, and emulsifiers, rather than being made from whole foods. These foods are engineered to be highly palatable, shelf-stable, and convenient, but typically lack the fiber, vitamins, and minerals found in minimally processed foods. Scientific research has linked regular consumption of ultra-processed foods to increased risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic health conditions.
