Wasp

1 article · Interdisciplinary · Wikipedia

Wasps are predatory insects belonging to the order Hymenoptera, characterized by their narrow waists, smooth bodies, and typically aggressive behavior when defending their nests or food sources. Unlike bees, which are primarily herbivorous and fuzzy, wasps are carnivorous hunters that play an important ecological role by controlling populations of flies, mosquitoes, caterpillars, and other pest insects. While some wasps are solitary hunters, others form colonies with complex social structures similar to ants and bees, and many species can deliver painful stings multiple times as a defense mechanism.
