Infectious disease outbreaks expose weaknesses that are overlooked between crises. The ongoing Ebola virus disease outbreak caused by Bundibugyo virus (Orthoebolavirus bundibugyoense; BDBV) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, during which there has been cross-border transmission into Uganda, has brought together governments, regional and multilateral organisations, manufacturers, research institutions, and financing partners. These actors are accelerating the development, evaluation, and deployment of medical countermeasures (MCMs), including diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
