Researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Center for Computer Vision have developed a digital tool that assists neurosurgeons in identifying and preserving critical brain areas during tumor removal procedures. The tool was created in collaboration with Bellvitge University Hospital's Neurosurgery Department and has been successfully implemented in 31 neurosurgical operations, with 19 cases performed at Bellvitge University Hospital. The technology aims to improve surgical precision by mapping essential brain functions that must be protected during tumor resection.

This tool could significantly reduce the risk of damaging critical brain functions during tumor removal surgery, potentially improving patient outcomes and quality of life post-operation. The successful implementation in real surgical procedures demonstrates its practical viability for widespread clinical adoption.
