Cirrhosis

1 article · Medicine · Wikipedia

Cirrhosis is a serious liver disease where healthy liver tissue is gradually replaced by scar tissue, severely reducing the organ's ability to function properly. This scarring typically develops over years due to repeated liver damage from causes like alcohol abuse, viral hepatitis, or fatty liver disease, and unfortunately it is largely irreversible. Without treatment, cirrhosis can lead to liver failure and life-threatening complications as the organ loses its capacity to filter blood, produce proteins, and process nutrients.
