This study examined 358 folk dance participants and found a negative, significant, but weak correlation between empathic tendencies and trait anxiety levels. Regression analysis showed that empathic tendencies significantly predict trait anxiety, accounting for 10.7% of the variance. The findings suggest folk dance participation may be associated with both empathy development and anxiety regulation.

The research indicates that folk dancing, as a group-based physical activity rooted in cultural traditions, may serve as a practical intervention for improving psychological well-being by enhancing empathy while potentially reducing anxiety levels. This could inform therapeutic approaches and community programs that utilize traditional cultural activities for mental health benefits.
