Liquid

1 article · Chemistry · Wikipedia

A liquid is a state of matter where particles are close together like in a solid, but they can move freely around each other like particles in a gas, which is why liquids flow and take the shape of their container. The most familiar example is water, which remains liquid between 0 and 100 degrees Celsius at sea level, but other liquids include oil, milk, and even molten metal at high temperatures. What makes liquids unique is this balance between structure and freedom—the particles stick together enough to maintain volume, but not so rigidly that they're locked in place.
